MICHIGAN'S NEW CONSERVATORSHIP APPRAISAL REQUIREMENTS

As Michigan’s new conservatorship requirements under Public Act 68 of 2026 take effect (Section 5423 of the Estates and Protected Individuals Code; EPIC, MCL 700.5423), probate and estate attorneys now need a licensed real estate appraisal completed within the prior six (6) months before a court can approve the sale, mortgage, or encumbrance of a protected individual’s principal dwelling, real property or interest in real property.  https://www.legislature.mi.gov/Bills/Bill?ObjectName=2025-SB-0585
